Earlier this year I was looking for secure airport parking as I had to be at Luton Airport in the very early hours of a Wednesday morning in order to catch a six o’clock flight, and as it was a weekday, I didn’t have anyone available to take me. Luton Airport is about a thirty-five-mile journey from where I live and as the price of a taxi was going to be £60.00 each way I looked at parking at the airport.
I was not keen on the idea of leaving my car keys in the hands of the car park staff, we have all heard horror stories about car park staff driving customers cars like they are formula one racing drivers and then parking them up in muddy fields miles from the airport, I like to see how and where my car is parked before I leave it. Let’s face it, nobody is going to take good care of one’s car as much as the owner does, and I did not want to worry about my car whilst I was away.
After a search on Google, I found secure airport parking in the mid-term car park on the official Luton Airport website. It stated that you are able to park your car yourself and you keep your keys with you, then there was a free and short bus ride to the terminal. This was just what I was looking for and as I was able to pre-book, I could pay right away and secure my parking space there and then. I also found that the car park was certified with the ‘park mark safer parking‘ logo.
Secure Airport Parking.
Upon arrival I just drove up to the barrier, collected my printed parking ticket with my license plate number on it, the barrier opened and in I went. I found a nice parking space on an end with quite a large gap between my car and the next car along, so I was quite happy with where I had parked. I took photo’s of my car and the surrounding cars should anything happen whilst I was away.
After I parked it was just a short walk to a nearby bus stop, there were a handful of people waiting for the bus and it was not long before one arrived. The bus took just about five minutes to reach the terminal and I was thinking all is OK, as I had parked my car in the secure airport parking. I was now in the departure lounge looking forward to my holiday.
On my return, after the plane had landed safely, I collected my suitcase and made my way outside the bus stand and waited about five minutes for the bus. Just a short journey on an almost empty bus that took me back to the same bus stop in the car park where I had left my car about a week earlier.
I walked over to where I had left my car, and there it was, still parked next to the same car that was there when I had left, and the same car that was parked behind. I put my suitcase in the boot and looked around my car and found it in the same condition as when I had left it.
From the minute the plane had stopped on the stand at 4 o’clock in the afternoon to when I was indoors, took exactly two hours, this included getting off the plane, waiting for my case to arrive on the carousel, driving from Luton Airport to my home in sunny Berkshire via M1, M25 and M40 motorways in the afternoon rush hour traffic, so in my experience, secure airport parking is a safe, convenient and cost-effective way to travel to an airport.
It is also peace of mind knowing that my car was going to be very safe as the car park carries the park mark logo and is a member of the safer parking scheme with the British Parking Association.
